    Leather craft, Morocco
    Material: Leather

Morocco is home to some of the oldest tanneries in the world that have been operating in the same way for centuries. The process is entirely done by hand and can take up to month from start to finish. First the hides are soaked in a mixture of pigeon poop, quicklime, water and salt to clean and soften the skin.

After two to three days, they are put in a dying solution of natural colorants such as poppy flower for red, indigo for blue, mint for green, saffron for yellow and henna for orange. Afterwards they are dried in the sun.
The leather we use for our products comes from animals that are widely used for comsumption in Morocco. Meat is still a part of daily meals, making the skins a waste product.

We work with skilled artisans who handcraft the leather into beautiful products.
