This rug is made with natural dyes only. To make this rug so beautifully bright red-orange, the artisans create a unique variety of natural dyes: a red colour made with cochineal. Cochineal is a bug that lives in a cactus, and the substance is mixed with a natural acid, like lime juice or vinegar. Apart from mixing the two, also the choice of natural wool (white, grey, brown, black or beige) influences the final colour shade.
The rug is handmade, woven on a loom and it takes about 3 weeks from start to finish.
It is thin and double-sided. For extra protection and grip, an additional rug pad may be used underneath.
